RESOURCES FROM EACH INSTAGATH EPISODE:

Ep 1: Happy Trials to You (Dan Gillette, Natalie Pearce & Jason Moog)

Theme: God has purpose for your trials and his purposes are always good.

Main Points:

  1.  There is one Almighty God who reveals himself to all of humanity. ( Bible Ref.)

  2. He is sovereign—having authority and power over all things. (Bible Ref.)

  3. He is good and loving and remains steadfast in character. (Bible Ref.)

  4. He offers forgiveness, peace & access to his promises through Jesus Christ.(Bible Ref.)

  5. He promises to extract good from all things (including trials) for those that love him & are united to him. (Bible Ref.)

Our suggestions: Lean into the trial—embrace it.  Look for how God uses it to grow you, change you, and impact your relationships. Ask God to produce perseverance in you and let it give you “spiritual muscle”.

 Verses for Meditation or Memorization:

James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  3  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  4  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and completenot lacking anything

**Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

1Peter 1:6-7 ESV  In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,   7  so that the tested genuineness of your faith… may be found…[genuine].

Psalm 62: 11, 12. …power belongs to God…steadfast love belongs to God.

Questions to Consider or Discuss:

  •  What trial(s) are you facing right now?

  • Are you leaning into it & looking for ways to grow?

  • Do you share your trials with others or do you tend to keep them private?

  • What is our role and what is God’s role in James 1:2-4?

  • Who are the recipients of the promises found in James 1:2-4 and Romans 8:28 and what are the implications of your answer?

  •  Who is one person you can share your trial with and ask for prayer?

Challenge(s):

  • Read and Memorize one of the four passages from this episode.

  • Share with someone (more spiritually mature than yourself) a trial you are experiencing. Ask for prayer.

Assignment(s) or Extras:

**A THOUGHT ON ROMANS 8:28

Nothing can blow you over inside the walls of Romans 8:28. Outside Romans 8:28, all is confusion and anxiety and fear and uncertainty and straw houses of deadening drugs and tin roofs of retirement plans and cardboard fortifications of anti-ballistic missiles and a thousand other substitutes for Romans 8:28. Once you walk through the door of love into the massive, unshakable structure of Romans 8:28, everything changes. There comes into your life stability and depth and freedom. You simply can’t be blown over anymore. The confidence that a sovereign God governs for your good all the pain and all the pleasure that you will ever experience is an absolutely incomparable refuge and security and hope and power in your life. No promise in all the world surpasses the height and breadth and weight of Romans 8:28. –John Piper
