April 17: Trust is a Choice

God is always faithful to use Bible studies I am in to teach me something I need to know at that time.

I am presently studying My Heart Unveiled, and last week I was looking at the section on “trusting the Lord.” I don’t think there has ever been a time where I needed to be reminded and encouraged to trust the Lord more!

Trust is a choice on my part. In difficult times, such as we find ourselves in now, it is easy to doubt or worry which can lead to anxiety. It can be an all too familiar cycle to fall into.

Let’s spend a moment looking at Philippians 4:4-7.

Rejoice in the Lord; again I say, rejoice.

Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.

The Lord is at hand. Do not be anxious about anything,

but in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,

let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God

which surpasses all understanding will guard

your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

So Paul tells us that if we choose to focus on Jesus in the storms, exchanging our anxiety for prayers and thanksgiving, we can find God’s supernatural peace and joy. This might be on a minute-by-minute basis as we live through these days, but each time I do remember to renew my mind and spend time with Jesus, he is so faithful to me.

Here is a poem I wrote the other day entitled “In the storm”:

In the storm

in the storm

there is joy

with You

in Your presence

  in my heart

    in time spent

delighting

in You

  in Your words

    in Your love

there is peace

with You

in surrendering

  my mind

    in prayer

with You

in gratitude

  in praise

     abiding

with You

in control

there is joy

in the storm

Shelter in Peace,
